Most
people today have excess abdominal fat. Generally we are
more concerned with how this affects our appearance and makes us
reluctant to show our bodies.
But what most people don't understand is that excess fat in the
abdomen especially, is not only unattractive, but also is also a
dangerous risk factor for your health. Scientific studies have
clearly shown that although general excess body is detrimental to
your health, excess abdominal fat is especially dangerous.
There are two areas of fat that you have in your
midsection. Subcutaneous fat, beneath the skin covers your ab
muscles preventing them from being visible. The second type of
belly fat is called visceral fat, which is within the abdominal
cavity surrounding the internal organs beneath the muscle. Visceral
fat is responsible for the "beer bellies" that some men have where
the abdomen protrudes excessively.
Subcutaneous fat and visceral fat in the abdominal region are
both serious health risk factors, but research has shown that
having excessive visceral fat is even more dangerous than
subcutaneous fat. Both types of abdominal fat greatly
increase the risk for diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood
pressure, sleep apnea, several types of cancer, and other
degenerative diseases.
One of the reasons that visceral fat is so deadly is that it
seems to regularly release inflammatory substances into your
system.
If you are concerned about the quality of your life and your
family, reducing abdominal fat should be one of your highest
priorities.
A great side effect of finally losing all of that ugly
excessive abdominal fat is that your stomach will flatten
out, and if you lose enough that stomach fat, you will be
able to see those sexy six pack abs that everyone wants.
So how do you get rid of extra abdominal fat? Is there a REAL
solution beyond all of the hype and gimmicks that you see in ads
and on commercials for "miracle" fat loss products?
First, you need to understand that there is absolutely NO quick
fix. There are no pills, supplements or gadgets of any type that
will help you lose your abdominal fat more quickly. You can't spot
reduce your stomach fat by using any of these worthless products.
It simply won't work that way.
The ONLY solution to lose your abdominal fat and consistently
keep it off for good is to combine a sound nutritious diet
comprised of unprocessed natural foods with a properly designed
strategic exercise program that stimulates your body's desired
metabolic and hormonal response. To get it right, both your
food intake and your exercise program are important.
I have actually seen a particular study that divided thousands
of participants into a diet-only group and an exercise & diet
combined group. While both groups in this study had positive
results, the diet-only group lost significantly LESS abdominal fat
than the diet & exercise combined group.
It is important to realize is that just any old exercise regime
will not necessarily produce the desired results. Most people who
start an exercise program are NOT working out effectively enough to
stimulate the loss of stubborn abdominal fat. I see this all the
time at the gym.
Most people will do the typical boring ineffective cardio
routines, add a little outdated body-part type weight training, and
do some crunches and side bends, thinking that they will reduce
their abdominal fat. Then after weeks or months of no results they
become frustrated and wonder what went wrong.
